Sometimes you might want to extract a given frame from a video. However, most video players do not allow doing that. ImageGrab is a freeware application specifically intended to help you extract snapshots from a video.
The programmer has done a good job at developing an application full of useful options that will allow you to customize many aspects of the image grabbing process. However, it is my opinion that they should look for the help of a graphical designer because the interface could definitely be made more intuitive and better looking. I am talking about the layout of the graphical elements, which may turn out a little confusing for the user. Just to mention an example: there are buttons that perform actions while other buttons display panels. Instead of using buttons for panels, they could have used tabs, which are better comprehended by the user.
No matter how unnecessarily difficult the interface could prove, I hope you will find your way at last because the basic procedure of grabbing a snapshot from a video is not actually difficult. You will have to open the video, view it and find the desired frame. Then, you should push the Extract Image button, which will save an image file to the hard disk.
Nonetheless, you can also use more sophisticated procedures. In this regard, ImageGrab includes a tool called Intervalometer, which will allow saving snapshots at a given interval, specified as time units or frames.
In addition, there are lots of options available. You may select a folder to save the pictures or choose a picture format from BMP or JPEG. You can also insert time stamps in a definite format. Other configurable parameters include the quality of the video, the use of filters, the confirmation before replacing a file and the capability to grab a snapshot just by clicking on the video.
